The stated purpose of the Google Panda algorithm update was to reward high-quality websites and diminish the presence of low-quality websites in Google’s organic search engine results. It was also initially known as “Farmer.” According to Google, Panda’s initial rollout over the course of several months affected up to 12 percent of English language search results. Google Panda, a search results algorithm which filtered out websites with thin, low quality content. This was the start of a series of major quality control checks. Google Panda stripped search results pages (SERPs) of poorly constructed, spammy content, enabling higher quality websites to rise to the top. Google Top Heavy Update Top Heavy was launched in January 2012 by Google as a means to prevent sites that were “top-heavy” with ads from ranking well in its listings. Top Heavy is periodically updated. When a fresh Top Heavy Update happens, sites that have removed excessive ads may regain lost rankings. New sites deemed too “top-heavy” may get caught |
